Close to Toronto, yet a world apart

Nestled at the base of the majestic Scarborough Bluffs, we share our beautiful and fully protected basin with swans and kingfishers, kayakers and paddle boarders, and boats of all stripes. We are steps from one of the longest white sand beaches on the lake, certified by the prestigious international Blue Flag program. Hiking trails, cycling paths, and naturalized wetland features lie just to the west.

Three excellent restaurant choices are a quick stroll from your boat: Family-friendly offerings from Cathedral Bluffs YC, Brasserie style food from The Dogfish Café, and fine dining at Bluffers.

Gas and Diesel is available from the full-service marina kitty-corner to our docks, as is haul out and professional repair if required.
And of course, we are only 20 minutes by car from downtown Toronto or a leisurely couple-hour sail.

Facilities

Highland has docks for 132 member boats, plus room for 10 visiting boats. As of 2020, we are retrofitting our docks to make them fully adjustable in case of high water – a testament to HYC ingenuity. There is 20 amp service to member docks, 30 amps for visitors.
We have a hydraulic mast crane onsite and a pump-out for members’ use. A large communal workshop has benches, table saw, drill press, arc welder and air compressor for club and personal projects.
Mast rack storage features electric winches for ease of use. We also have storage racks for dinghies, kayaks, and SUPs.
Our clubhouse has a full kitchen, showers, office, and sailors’ lounge downstairs. Upstairs is the Great Hall for meetings and functions, complete with bar area and gas fireplace. Picnic tables and BBQs are strategically placed around our grounds to maximize the views.

On Water Events

Our members compete throughout the season in the Bluffer's Park Interclub Racing program. Fleets are drawn from the four basin clubs and include White Sail, Spinnaker, Fully Crewed and Double-Handed in series that run from May till the end of September. Highland boats have also won or placed well in LORCA events, the LO300, Susan Hood and many open regattas around the lake.
Highland maintains an active cruising schedule throughout the season, with up to 15 member boats at a time visiting reciprocal clubs to enjoy good food and good times. First-time cruisers are welcome and supported! Destinations have included Wilson NY and most clubs from Whitby to Port Credit.

Social

It’s hard to say what constitutes the highlight of Highland’s social calendar. That’s because the offerings are so varied and distinct. From the on water celebration of Sail Past which kicks off the boating season, to the formal affair known as the Commodore’s Ball, Christmas kids’ party and toy drive, the many themed and costumed parties that occur almost monthly all the yearlong, weekly darts nights, and many more impromptu gatherings – Highland loves to come together and play. And why not? We have a shared passion for boating, a beautiful location, and many good friends among us both old and new.

Self Help

Highland is a true self-help club. We are volunteers working together to build and maintain a fantastic boating experience, at a reasonable cost. We have no employees. Every Highland member contributes work hours each year (typically between 20-24) to the physical and social operations of the club. We launch and haul our boats as a community in carefully planned and executed work parties. Don’t worry, there are many ways for members to contribute. And sharing tasks with others is a great way to make new friends.

BurgeeBy its Constitution, Highland Yacht Club is restricted to 132 members. Most often our membership is full and frequently there is a waiting list of those who have been approved for membership and are waiting for a vacancy. But things do change quickly and membership positions become available on an on-going basis.

The process for membership is straight forward. The applicant fills out a membership form and then meets with our Membership Committee for an informal discussion.

When the application for membership is approved and necessary financial transactions completed; the applicant becomes a Probationary Member for one year, after which time Senior Member status can be achieved. For more information and our current fee structure, please contact our Vice Commodore.

I am interested in becoming a member at Highland Yacht Club - please send me an official application form.
