Winterizing the club
That stretch of extended summer weather we all enjoyed over the weeks after haul out has ended and the colder winter weather is now upon us. Thanks to all the hard work of our club winterizing crews, HYC is ready and prepared for the cold months ahead.
The outside water system has been turned off, drained down and all the distribution lines blown clear.
The service dock pump out system has been flushed out with clean water and then winterized with antifreeze.
The dock ladders have been raised and secured ready for winter.
Our work boat and work rafts have been hauled out and stored safely on the service dock.
Bubbler system
New lines installed
As you may have noticed, our dock bubbling crew have been busy installing the bubbling rods and inspecting the hoses. However, during the start up process this year, as the underground lines were being purged to clear them of any debris, a significant amount of water was blown out of them, confirming we have a breakdown within the piping system.
As this problem would create a challenge for the proper operation and balancing of the bubblers, we have run new air line piping along the shoreline to the docks to replace the old compromised lines. These new lines will provide the necessary air flow to the docks to run the bubblers effectively.
While our bubbling crew will continue to monitor the system throughout the winter, we ask that while you do your OD Duty you also check that the bubblers are working correctly. This check should only be done from the shoreline or from the clubhouse deck, and never by venturing out on the docks to inspect them.
How will you know if they are working? You will see water movement around the dock pilings and ice should not form. If you see that any of the bubblers do not appear to be working properly, please notify the Rear Commodore immediately so we can rectify the problem as soon as possible.
