Board of Directors

  • Commodore: Steve Masson

    - provides leadership to the Board, ensures the integrity of the Board’s process and represents the Board to outside parties

    - ensures that a Board annual work plan is developed and implemented

    - chairs the meetings of the Club members and the Board of Directors

    - ensures that the Club By-laws, Policies and regulations are followed

    - is an ex-officio member of all committees

  • Past Commodore: Chris Winsor

    - serves as an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors

    - filled by the Commodore upon completion of a full term of office as Commodore

    - if the previous Commodore is unable to serve, a senior member will be appointed by a majority vote of a quorum of Directors to fill this function

  • Vice Commodore: Gerald Spiegel

    - chairs the Membership Committee

    - receives applications for membership, arranges interviews with prospects; provides formal notification of membership acceptance

    - provides welcome packages for new members

    - manages the membership waiting list, resignations, and requests for changes to membership status

    - ensures members have the required insurance for their boat docked at HYC

    - has responsibility for a Regalia Committee

    - assists the Commodore with their duties, and in their absence acts on his/her behalf

  • Rear Commodore: Barry Schoop

    - has responsibility for improvements to, and the upkeep of HYC property (grounds, docks, clubhouse and garage)

    - chairs the Planning and Development Committee and the Housekeeping Committee

    - on cruises, he/she shall have charge of the rear of the fleet

    - assists the Commodore and Vice Commodore, and in their absence acts on their behalf

  • Fleet Captain: Sean Matthews

    - responsible for the Cruising, Racing and the Safety programs of HYC 

    - coordinates all events “on the water”

    - actively promotes a high standard of seamanship among HYC members

  • Treasurer: Christoper Kieffer

    - chairs the Finance and Budget Committee, and works collaboratively to support the Board in achieving its fiduciary

    - ensures that all monies due, owing, and payable to HYC are collected and deposited; invoicing and collection of member fees

    - ensures that all bills contracted and approved are paid

    - prepares statement of account, the annual statement, and budgets

    - has signing authority for HYC cheques, bank drafts, and similar items

  • Secretary: Sriram Rangan

    - provides HYC members with Notice of Club meetings and proxy opportunities; attends all meetings of members

    - notifies Board of Directors and By-law and Policy Review Committee of Board of Director meetings; attends all meetings

    - prepares and maintains central files for all keeps the minutes of member meetings Board of Director meetings

    - manages online Work Hours system to track member progress in achieving annual mandatory work hours

    - ensures that a correct roster of Directors is kept, with dates of election, signed Consent to Act forms, and keeps Ontario Business Registry files up-to-date

    - maintains a register of the names and contact information of HYC members

  • Harbour Master: Jessica Templin

    - chairs a Harbour Master Committee

    - maintains a register of all boats belonging to HYC and its members

    - coordinates dock assignments, and winter storage to achieve optimum utilization of facilities

    - manages annual Launch and Haul-out weekends, assigns member jobs and co-ordinates crane resources

    - responsible for the orderly conduct and passage of boats in HYC waters

    - monitoring of the water depth around the docks

  • Social Director: Georgina Good

    - chairs a Social Committee

    - is responsible for planning creating and executing HYC social activities and events throughout the year

    - provides oversight for HYC bar service, liquor licence, accounting, and Smart Serve accreditation

    - approves member requests for private use of Great Hall

    - manages the overall Social budget

  • Communications Director: Daryl King

    - chairs a Communications Committee

    - responsible for keeping members informed of the club's activities

    - maintains HYC public and Members Only website, as well as email system, social media accounts, central platform for club business files, and other apps used by HYC

    - publishes materials for a member newsletter, HYC promotional materials, visitors' information
